Offering Yoga Classes for Employees can Save Businesses Money

At Grow Mobile Yoga, we’ve discussed the numerous benefits of practicing yoga and how incorporating a consistent yoga practice can help you in the long run. But employers, are you aware of the mounting evidence that bringing in onsite yoga classes to the workplace can result in decreased staff turnover/absenteeism, higher job satisfaction amongst employees, higher productivity, and employee engagement in your organization? We’ll tell you how:

Yoga Can Help Increase Employee Productivity

We’ve all heard the expression, "Time is money" and know how very true this is. Still, we tend to confuse activity with productivity, meaning that not every activity in the workplace is productive. Did you know even the most hardworking employee is only productive for about three hours a day? (Curtin, 2016) . We are NOT suggesting that you start offering only part-time jobs (ha ha) but instead, we want to bring to your attention how implementing yoga sessions will help increase your employees' productivity and engagement in your organization.

On-site Yoga Classes Can Reduce Sick Leave

Yoga is a mind-body exercise that unifies our breathing with various postures to engage the muscles, and unwind tension. Offering yoga has been proven through studies to decrease job-related injuries and is an inexpensive and effective way to relieve stress from the individual's job compared to having to deal with constant absenteeism and unproductiveness as well as paying for sick leave (Gura 2001). Per the city of Tacoma, Washington’s laws, an employee can carry over up to 40 hours of unused paid sick leave into the following year  (City of Tacoma, 2018) . Even your temporary and part-time employees, by law, are allowed to use paid sick leave (City of Tacoma, 2018). Let us break that down for you-- according to the Integrated Benefits Institute, unwell U.S. employees have cost employers $530 billion and 1.4 billion workdays of absence and impaired performance (Integrated Benefits Institute, 2018).  An experimental research study concluded that a randomized group of individuals that actively practiced yoga in a six-week trial had significant emotional well being and resilience to stress in the workplace environment (Gura 2001 & Hartfiel, Havenhand, Khalsa, et al., 2011). While many other researchers have found that practicing yoga for extended periods can increase focus, improve individual moods, and reduce fatigue, we want to bring your focus back to the earlier mentioned point: increasing your businesses PRODUCTIVITY.

Pierce County Businesses Offer Weekly Yoga Classes For Employees

It is no surprise that well-known companies in Tacoma, Washington, and across Pierce County such as Deloitte, Microsoft, The Rush Companies and United Way of Pierce County have offered onsite yoga sessions to their employees.  It is important to note that you won't see differences from one yoga session. All of the studies show one thing in common- that it takes a consistent weekly practice to get the amazing yoga benefits that you business wants. That’s why our goal at Grow Mobile Yoga is to make this as easy as possible by bringing yoga directly to you by supplying a certified local yoga teacher and offering discounts for multiple weekly yoga classes. If you have made it this far, we have other amazing blog posts you should totally check out, and share this with other Tacoma employers, your boss (wink wink) and friends that would benefit from this post!
