How 30 Minutes of Yoga can Change Your Stressful Modern Lifestyle

Calling all single parents, parents with newborns, and everyone with a busy schedule. Anyone existing in modern society who doesn’t seem to have enough hours in the day to accomplish everything they want to do. While modern lifestyles and technology changes are easing the life of today, it comes at the cost of our health, both physically, socially, psychologically, and spiritually (Tessema, 2017). Modern lifestyles increase our risk of obesity (by spending so much time in chairs), work and family-related stress, and a spectrum of mental health problems like insomnia, depression, and anxiety. While we’re encouraged to fill our schedules with work, projects, meetings, and events, these activities are not actually that great for our health, as we often end up spreading ourselves too thin. This is why we recommend setting aside at least 30 minutes out of your day to practice yoga. This short amount of time is said to be very beneficial, especially before starting work, or before any task that will increase our stress level (Mala, 2020).

Unless you have been living under a rock or haven't checked out our blogs recently (hint, hint), you are probably aware that yoga has clinically been proven to have many benefits that enhance and increase your quality of life. Yoga encourages us to be present, to slow down our breath, and to relax. While having minimal amounts of stress is normal and part of our human evolution the problem is when we are chronically stressed, our body never shuts down our flight or fight response. Yoga can help us shift the balance from our sympathetic nervous system (where our flight or fight response lives) to our parasympathetic system that allows us to have that relaxation response (Woodyard, 2011).

I am aware that our modern lifestyle demands a lot from us. As a consequence, many of us live stressful lives and have jam-packed schedules. Our body is our sanctuary, and it does so much for us. This is why we are here to help and encourage you to find those 30 minutes to practice yoga. We have to block this time out on our schedule, otherwise we will always push it aside in lieu of some other activity that seems more important. Grow Mobile Yoga's primary purpose is to help individuals with busy schedules, parents, and anyone with an open mind, like yourself, to join us and bring yoga to you. Wherever you may be in the world, whether it may be at your home, your workplace, or anywhere with an internet connection and a yoga mat. We want yoga to always be accessible to you in a comfortable and welcoming environment.
